Franktown Meadows & Brookside Splash
July 4, 2016
As much as we love to stick together at Dreamland Farms, Andrea and Nicole split up last weekend in order to take horses to two fantastic competitions! Nicole headed to Brookside for the Brookside Splash and SAHJA Medal Final show, while Andrea headed up to Reno with Meagan for the beautiful Franktown Meadows Hunter Derby!
Bugsy and Andrea returned for the second year to Franktown Meadows, this time with a little more derby experience behind them. With a giant grass field to ride on, Bugsy was able to stretch out his big stride and show off his wonderful canter. The jumps have never been intimidating to this spotted horse, and this derby was no different. Bugsy and Andrea put in a great round and are more than prepared for the derbies to come!
Megan and Lactic joined Andrea, to keep her company and gain the experience as well! As a surprise, the two were asked to join in the opening ceremony for the International Derby on Sunday! With dogs running around barking, they were able to participate in such a fun event, and couldn't be more grateful! Check out the pictures below!
Meanwhile, Nicole was in Elk Grove with Jody, Lauren, Pinky, and Rachel. The staff did a great job of keeping entries in the rings at all times, but the amount of entries made the hot days very long. However, everyone stayed strong and put in some very good rounds!
Jody and her mare, Tess, won the first blue ribbon in the barn on Friday afternoon, before switching horses and putting in great rounds on Ben! Passing on her Champion trophy from the SAHJA Mini Medal from last year, she was ready to compete in the SAHJA Ch/Ad Medal. The jumper jump thrown into the medal finals caught many horses and riders off guard, but Jody and Ben worked hard and just missed out on the top 10 of a very competitive group.
Pinky and her new horse, Manny, stepped up to the 2'9"-3' hunter ring this show and did so brilliantly. The more we have this horse in our barn, the more we love and appreciate him, and he is proving to be such a perfect match for Pinky! By Saturday, the two even qualified for the SAHJA Ch/Ad Medal workoff in an attempt to be a last minute add to the list of qualifiers. After a gruesome few laps at the sitting trot, she wound up with a well deserved second place!
Lauren and Salto came into this competition with only a few rides within the past few months. Between and injured wrist and a fun vacation, Lauren only had a few chances to prepare for this show, but she performed very well! Now that she is officially back in the saddle, she is sure to get going back in the show ring better than ever!
Last, but definitely not least, Rachel and her horse Mikey came a long way from Friday to Sunday! Each round they put in got better and better, coming down to the Ch/Ad Medal finals on Sunday. After a little stage fright in the first round, the team pulled it together to get an 81 score in her second round! Great job!
As always, thank you to the staff at both locations for making these competitions run smoothly. We count on you all in order to give our riders a great time, and you don't dissappoint. Thank you!
